How Halfbill billing works — prepaid credits, top-up packs, Chat and Code plans, overflow, refunds, and VAT.
Halfbill bills per token from a prepaid credit balance. Subscriptions are optional. The authoritative price list is halfbill.uk/pricing; per-model prices are on the models page and are never hard-coded in these docs.
Per-token prices
- Standard Claude and GPT models are billed at 50% of the vendor list price per input and output token.
- Prices, context limits, and capabilities per model come from the live catalogue at halfbill.uk/models. If the catalogue changes, the price changes with it.
- Every response includes the cost of that request; the dashboard aggregates cost per model, API key, and project.
Credits (pay as you go)
Add credits once and use them across the API and Halfbill Chat. No subscription is required. Because standard models are billed at half the vendor list price, $10 of credits buys $20 of usage at vendor prices.

- Credits do not expire for 12 months after your last purchase.
- Optional auto top-up: set a threshold and an amount in the billing page.
- Per-key spend limits let you cap what any single key can consume.
Subscriptions
All plans are billed monthly in USD; annual billing is priced at 10 months.

Every tier covers thousands of frontier-model messages a month. Past the allowance, chat continues from your credits. Without a plan, Halfbill Chat spends credits at the per-token price. Current plans: halfbill.uk/pricing.

- All standard models are included. Premium models have a weekly fair-use cap in addition to the monthly allowance.
- Unused allowance does not roll over.
- Past the allowance, usage either continues from credits or stops — a per-key setting.
Teams
From $99/mo with 5 seats included, then $15 per seat: per-member limits, consolidated monthly invoices, roles, and an audit log. Email hello@halfbill.uk to set one up.
Invoices, refunds, and VAT
- Invoices are emailed automatically after each payment; add company details in billing settings before purchasing.
- Unused credits are refundable within 14 days of purchase under EU consumer law, minus what was consumed. Chat and Code plans have a self-serve money-back window shown on the plan page.
- Prices exclude VAT; VAT is applied at checkout for EU customers.
